Interfood has announced a brand new addition to its Butchery Division with a new partnership confirmed with Astech Food Machinery, the Spain based manufacturer of automatic sawing equipment for the food industry.  It brings a further focus on the safe cutting of products through commercial bandsaws, along with excellent cut quality and increased throughput.

The flagship product in the Astech range is the SRA automatic bandsaw system, the original piece of patented equipment with which Astech launched as a business in 2012.  Since that launch, the SRA has already been sold into major food processing operations throughout the world, including several countries in Europe, Australasia, South America and Africa. It is now available in the UK and Ireland through Interfood following the company’s appointment as sole distributor.

A prime focus in the design of the SRA is the throughput that it offers which is significantly higher than many other bandsaws on the market.  Up to 8 lamb loins or 5 lamb legs can be cut simultaneously by only one operator, ensuring excellent productivity.  The constant cutting speed provides precise portioning of bone-in and boneless products, with the clean cut of products one of its major attributes, a point recognised by Richard Nethercot, Divisional Manager of Interfood Butchery – “We recently conducted trials with one of the UK’s premier food producers at Astech’s production facility in Girona in the north-eastern Catalonia region of Spain.  The product was lamb and the results were exceptional with the quality of the cut a particular highlight, achieving consistent thickness every single time. Precision cutting is fundamental to high quality presentation and the trials were so successful that it lead to the first sale into the UK.”

The SRA can cut chilled or crust frozen product down to a temperature of minus 40°C.  The bandsaw is also characterised by its versatility, able to accommodate a wide range of products through quick-remove grippers to ensure easy product changeover, along with the capacity to programme various cutting configurations, dependent on the product type and desired end-result.

Safety has also been built into the design with the machine surrounded by a stainless steel barrier to prevent access to the interior.  In addition, the cargo area features a safety light curtain that stops all movement if activated.

Richard Nethercot continues – “We launched the Interfood Butchery Division in 2016 and safety was at the heart of our initial offering with BladeStop™, an innovative system specifically designed to prevent injuries from commercial bandsaws. Now, with the introduction of the Astech SRA automatic in-line bandsaw, we have extended the range we are able to offer to this important sector of the industry, with the equipment supported by service and back-up to optimise performance and profitability.”
